Introducing Interim Rector
The Rev. John Johanssen
As a parish, we now find ourselves stepping into a new season of ministry here at All Saints’.
Just last week, we gathered with both joy and sadness to celebrate Nancy Cox’s fifteen years of faithful ministry among us. Her presence, leadership, and love for this parish will continue to bless us for years to come.
As we turn the page and look toward what God has in store next, I am grateful to share some exciting news!
The Rev. John Johanssen will be joining us as our Interim Rector beginning January 1, 2025. His first Sunday with us will be January 4. John is a native of Ohio and has served faithfully in several parishes throughout his ordained ministry. Before responding to the call to priesthood, he practiced law for several years. He later received his Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary and has since served in a variety of roles, including previous experience as an interim rector. He also brings specialized training in interim ministry, equipping him to guide congregations with care and clarity during seasons of transition.
We are truly excited to welcome John to All Saints’ and look forward to the gifts and perspective he will bring to our shared life together.
Below is a letter from John, written to introduce himself to our parish community.
Dear Members and Friends of All Saints,
It is with pleasure and excitement that I write to you to introduce myself as your Interim Rector beginning January 1, 2026.
I have had the opportunity to serve as Interim Rector in a number of churches over the last several years having retired as Canon to the Ordinary from the Diocese of Southern Ohio.
When contacted by the Transition Ministry Office of the Diocese of North Carolina about the Interim position at All Saints’, it immediately captured my attention. After a wonderful visit with your wardens and vestry and much prayer and discernment, I am pleased to accept your invitation to join you in your ministry.
My home is in Hilliard, a suburb of Columbus Ohio where I have four sons and nine grandchildren all of whom live in the area. My partner, Virginia, will be joining me as she can while balancing her grandmotherly early child care duties during the school year.
My hobbies include music, sailing, hiking, and any activity in nature.
I look forward to meeting you all in person in early January and enjoying our ministry together.
Happy Thanksgiving, Blessed Advent and Merry Christmas.
Faithfully,
John+
Together, let’s welcome John with open hearts and step into this new season with the strong faith, shared purpose, and love that defines our All Saints’ community.
Beth Simpson,
Sr Warden
