Jennifer Cobb Memorial Labyrinth
Jennifer Cobb was a beloved and spirited member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church – full of life, filled with the Spirit, and deeply devoted to Jesus. She was known for her sense of humor and playfulness, often bringing laughter and light wherever she went. Jennifer passed away unexpectedly on September 22, 2015, due to a heart-related illness. She was just 38 years old. Jennifer was on staff as the church administrator of All Saints’ as well as one of the Youth Advisors working with our teens.
In the Christian tradition, a labyrinth symbolizes the spiritual journey: filled with twists and turns, ups and downs, yet always centered on God’s presence and salvation. Walking a labyrinth offers a space to pray, reflect, breathe, and find peace. It can be a deeply healing and inspiring experience. In late 2024, a donation was made specifically for a Labyrinth as a memorial to Jennifer Cobb. In March, a committee was formed to discern the possible locations on the property, the appropriate size and scale, design options, site preparation requirements, estimated costs, and funding sources.
The Gardens team recommended the site where the Learning Circle is located as a fitting location and the committee agreed.
The excavation of the site will require a 3-foot stepped retaining wall with proper drainage, site leveling, and the addition of two types of gravel to improve drainage. There will also be two new, wider gravel paths connecting the lower service road (from the lower parking lot) to the Labyrinth entrance and widening the existing path from the Gardens to the Learning Circle. All paths will have proper edging and excavated soil will be removed.
The Labyrinth design will have 7 circuits with pavers marking the borders. This design maintains a natural appearance.
The Labyrinth should be completed in September to mark the 10th anniversary of Jennifer’s passing. The cost has been covered by donations specifically made for this purpose. For more details about the process, pictures, and information about Jennifer, please read this letter sent to the Vestry.
On July 15, at the regular Vestry meeting, the proposal was approved. The committee is grateful for the support of the Vestry and will continue to keep all of you updated on our progress.
Sincerely,
The Jennifer Cobb Memorial Labyrinth Committee
