Rector Search Participant Guidelines
Purpose: Form a rector search committee which will prayerfully and thoughtfully conduct a rector search process to find a new spiritual leader to guide, inspire, and care for our parish.

Parameters for Search Committee Participants

  • Likely to be a 9–15-month commitment
  • Requires availability to participate actively during in person work sessions, regular meetings (in person & Zoom), meetings with candidates. This may include meetings during traditional business hours
  • Members can NOT have served on recent rector search committees
  • 1/3 of committee must be Vestry members
  • Seeking diverse representation across the church – including gender, age, ministries involvement, skills and perspectives

Characteristics of Participants

  • Faithful Listeners – Good listeners who can hear what the parish is looking for, how the candidate fits our mission, and what the spirit is saying
  • Time Commitment – Willing to devote time to participate in all committee meetings and activities, and ability to assume responsibility for completing assigned tasks in a timely manner. The workload of the committee will be higher in the beginning as the parish portfolio is developed, and near the end during the period of evaluating/interviewing candidates
  • Love of All Saints’ – Deeply engagement and committed to the mission and ministry of All Saints’
  • Mutual Respect – Ability to work respectfully with a team with diverse strengths, styles, and perspectives. Open to hear, engage, and work to build relationships and reach shared agreements
  • Balanced Perspectives – In the “via media” tradition, or the “middle way”, is the Episcopal short hand for the discipline to consider prayerfully both sides of an issue. The goal is to welcome all view points and consider them with respect as we debate and pray for a reasonable direction in our decisions to serve the whole church.
  • Confidentiality – Ability to speak honestly and directly with the team while keeping information about discussions and the candidates confidential
  • Forward Looking – Grounded in tradition, but looking to the future and who will best serve the needs of the evolving church
  • Spirit Driven – Willing to invite the Holy Spirit into discussions, deliberations, and decisions while being open to move in directions we might not have anticipated
